Ans: Yes. Because in the mythological story, Athena turns Arachne into a spider because Arachne beat her woven people’s art. Athena also suffers from pride she is a goddess, though, and as such is not constrained by human limitations like mortality, therefore her pride does not give rise to hubris.
Q.2. Do you think Arachne is right when she states that she is solely responsible for her success as a weaver? Who else might have contributed to Arachne’s success? Has anyone else contributed to your successes in life?
Ans: No. Arachne was wrong when she said no one helped her in her success. Because her father contributed to it. There are two reasons for this answer. The first one is that Arachne learns to knit from her father if her father hadn’t been a successful knitter then she wouldn’t have learned to be a good knitter. Therefore, she claims that no one has helped her reach that amount of success and mastery of her skill.
Q.3. In the context of the text, how are both Arachne and Athena corrupted by power? Can you think of an example in your life where someone was corrupted by their power? Cite evidence from this text, your own experience, and other literature, art, or history in your answer.
Ans: Arachne thought she was a better weaver than even the Gods and looked down on anyone who disagreed. On the other hand, Athena was a Goddess who used her powers to turn Arachne into a spider because Arachne made her mad. Arachne mocked Goddess Athena by calling her an inferior spinner and Weaver. This made Athena furious because she was one of the best in weaving skills.
